Tim Rogers

The SMS reads: “Tim had a stroke in Oz..”
Once the initial shock settled, there was this unrelenting sensation of deep melancholy – one that I still can’t shake.
Tim is one of those sixty-something original Indo-lifers who came over to the islands in the early 70′s, the first generation of surfers seeking those fabled waves in paradise. I’ve had the privilege of his company through out most of my time here. I’ve shared waves, voyages, soulful guitar jams and remained tight with a kind of spirit that’s getting increasingly rarer these days.
From all the folk here in the islands and beyond, we’re transmitting you maximum energy and wishing a speedy recovery. Whenever you make it back to the promised land – there’s a set wave with your name on it.
Take care brother..

Sof… I am in mourning…. Timmy is my idol… I can only hope he comes good.. I am planning on surfing with him and all the boys next season on Raja….
He’s a silent fighter Don, reckon he’ll claw his way back… eventually.
I hope your friend finds the strength to heal and be back with you Bear
Cheers Jo…
Just spent 3 days visiting Timmy in Macksville hospital. The stroke he suffered is serious. He is bedridden and needs full 24 hour care. Its a very sad situation and frustrating.Although a bit confused,he can talk and knows whats going on for the most part but the long term outlook is grim. Cant walk, cant really feed himself, The hospital is saying rehabilitation has failed but Tim is saying he wants to prove them wrong. I’m hoping for a miracle.
Thanks Michael… thinking about Timmy a lot… one of the most genuine souls I’ve ever known… plenty of people want him back… I also hope a miracle befalls this quiet achiever..

Best News ever re: Timmy Rogers
Timmy has made and is still making miraculous recovery from his stroke surprising all doctors and hospital staff that more less wrote him off months ago and had him pencilled in for a crappy 24 hour convalescent home.
I spoke with him yesterday ( Sunday June 7th) in the Coffs Harbor rehab unit where he has been over the last weeks. The best news is he is going home to his own house in Nambucca on Wednesday !!! Home !!! Timmy is stoked to say the very least. Its been a long and frustrating time in his life. I was nearly in tears yesterday when finding out this great news. He has proved all hospital staff wrong in their diagnosis. He is now walking without a walker, tossed the cane and is free wheeling as he put it yesterday. He has lost the Timmy speech pause he had and sounds better than he ever has. His mind is clear without doubt. He will still need some in home care for a bit, but he’s already talking about getting back on a surfboard. Maybe now he can switch to being goofyfoot for all the lefts at his real home in Bali where his sights are focused. I will be going up to see him again in a few days time. Looking forward to that knock on his door

It is miraculous news Michael… spoke to Timmy a couple weeks back and he also shared this inspirational news. These kind of stories affirm that with perseverance and that will to dream.. one can overcome anything. Smiles all around…
Just spending a few days with Timmy at his house. Yesterday Timmy had his 1st comeback to the surf. We paddled out at his home break. He was loving it being back in the salt water.
